How does doing a review help author’s sales?
I know reviews are important. I love them. I give them. But it really hit home this past weekend when I was at a fund-raising venue amidst a sea of venders who were selling a myriad of things. My booth was nestled between jewelry and nail polish sellers. These women asked about my books. It surprised me to see one of them go on Amazon and read the reviews. She remarked on them, then purchased one of my books. She could have picked up one of my books and read the back cover and even a bit of the book, but the reviews posted online were the clincher for her.
It is so easy to overlook the review process after finishing a book. Many e-books have a link to the review page on Amazon, so you can do that right after you finish reading it.
All that is necessary is a few lines about what you liked, and a star rating and you’re done. This is not the book report from your school days. Potential readers want to know if it is worth their time. And when you express what you liked, it may resonate with potential buyers. They are trusting reviewers to help them make that choice.
So please, all you readers post reviews. I have sold many more of each of my books than there are reviews. Low review numbers give the impression the book isn’t well-written. Don’t be that reader who loved the book but doesn’t help promote it by writing a review.
Latest Release
That leads me to my last comment about reviews. My novel Angelina’s Resolve, Book # 1 of the Village of Women series is releasing October 5th. Those who have preordered it please post a review on the 5th or as soon as you finish reading it. Those who received ARC copies don’t forget to post your review on Amazon that day.
And if any of you just purchased Rescuing Her Heart and haven’t posted a review, please do so.
Audiobooks
Now for a special announcement. The Cowboys and Rescuing Her Heart are now available as audiobooks. Which means all my novels, except Angelina’s Resolve are available in audio, e-book, and paperback. Whatever format you prefer to read a book I have you covered, and don’t forget to post a review. 🙂
Give-away
I’m giving away a copy of Angelina’s Resolve to one lucky commenter who answers this question. (Paperback or e-book. E-book only for international readers.)
Do you read the reviews before purchasing a book?
I DO read reviews, both positive and negative, before purchasing. Often, the negative reviewers write about one particular pet peeve or perspective that I don’t share, so I dismiss that review in my evaluation of whether to commit to reading a book or not. I read the reviews after the back cover blurb. I find the more reviews the better since I know absolutely nothing about most reviewers. It’s hard to weight reviewers opinions, unless the quantity of reviews balances out my lack of knowledge on who the reviewer is.
I am so glad to hear you read them. You shared good insights. If even a 10th of the readers would leave a review others like you would have a better idea about the book.
