More of my favorite books for June

Today I’m sharing a few contemporary reads I enjoyed this year. Their perfect for your vacation to-read list.

Reunion on Edisto

First up is C Hope Clark’s latest mystery, Reunion on Edisto. I’ve read every one of her mysteries to date. She writes for the general market and her writing craft is inspiring. It takes me until near the end of the books to discover who-done-it before she reveals it. I love mysteries like that. Edisto Island sounds like a fun place to vacation. And her love of the island shows through even with dead bodies scattered about. Placing a class reunion on Edisto was clever, but pulling in a cold case murder from high school made the story more intriguing. Mix in a few quirky characters that make Callie crazy as she races to pieces together the evidence from the past you have a mystery that will give you an excuse not to clean your house. You can read it as a stand-alone, but recommend grabbing the whole Edisto Island Mystery series.

Planning a reunion is going to get someone killed. . .

Edisto Beach Police Chief Callie Morgan has no desire to relive her senior year and the nightmare of a murder and a suicide that shook her high school to its core. But when the reunion committee convenes on Edisto Beach for a planning retreat, she has no choice. Every person on the committee could be a suspect in the unsolved murder, and one classmate, now a bestselling author, threatens to weave them into a tell-all true crime novel.

Until she disappears the first night of the committee retreat.

Callie must sort fact from fiction in a race against the clock to find a cold case murderer who may have just killed again.

The Golden Touch

A romantic-suspense author I enjoy is Carole Brown. Her interview was this past Tuesday. I finished The Golden Touch this week. It is part of a larger  Applton,WV, Romantic Mystery Series.but can be read as a stand-alone. She builds the suspense along with a romance in a subtle, natural way. Unexpected twists and a definite spiritual thread that carries the story along. She addresses difficult subjects and leaves just enough unanswered to springboard into the next book.

Not again… Ryle Sadler stared down at the financial statement lying on his desk. His investment firm had just sent him another record of overwhelming success. Time to sell his share in this stock. Ryle came from the poor side of the tracks, but that had no bearing on his success in life—which he keeps hidden from everyone, especially those in Appleton. But when he buys the local, rundown bed and breakfast, mysterious revelations from beneath the site are suddenly threatening to ruin his good standing with the citizens. Then along comes Jazzi Sanderson. Jazzi has a reputation of being wild, but Ryle sees more than is on the top layer of this woman. Beneath that tough, wild streak lurks a woman who wants to be loved by the right person, a woman who is tender-hearted and who is just finding out that God is real. Are Ryle and Jazzi’s worlds too far apart or can their differences help them solve the mystery that lies beneath Ryle’s bed and breakfast? Will the evil person behind it all be able to silence them, or can Ryle’s golden touch prevail in this endeavor too?

Avoiding Marriage

Karin Beery’s newest contemporary romance has laugh out loud moments. I loved Practically Married,   and her latest offering Avoiding Marriage is just as fun. Jessie is trying so hard to fix what she views as a tattered reputation by swearing off men. Then the wife of her ex begs her to come run the farm off. The dream job she’s always wanted.  Watching her avoid gossip, avoid her granny’s matchmaking and discovering a guy nothing like her ex might be the right one for her made this story extra delightful. It’s the perfect set on the patio and relax for a few hours kind of read. I can’t wait for the next installment of the Practically Married novella series.
