Today I welcome Angela Shelton, HealthCare accountant during the work week, farmer in the evenings and weekends, now moonlighting as an author of the YA Fantasy novels.

She’ll be talking a bit about her writing journey and her debut novel part of her series Collapse : The Death of Friendship.

Angela share with my readers a little of your journey to publication.

I’m an accountant by trade and have worked in healthcare my entire career. So, if you ever have a bill you are struggling with, send me a note on my website and I’m happy to try and help you out. Healthcare billing is so confusing to those who aren’t in the business.  When I started to think about retirement, though, I wanted a second career. I’m too goal oriented to just stop working. To that end, my husband and I bought a farm and now raise Angus cows. I also began the writing career that I always wanted to try out. You are never too old to start a new career.

Absolutely right, you are never too old to start a writing career. Tell us about your new book releasing tomorrow.

My first published book is Collapse: The Death of Friendship. As I mentioned, I live on a working farm. When COVID started, I spent a few weeks working at home as many Americans did and it got me to thinking about what it would be like if the bottom really fell out and COVID ruined the supply chain permanently. I just expanded on that thought and how a Christian family would react to it.

Wow! How intriguing. Sounds like an interesting story arc. I’ve put this in my TBR list. When did you realize your calling to create words on paper to share with the world?

My grandmother was a writer. She used her ability to put my aunt through college. I think the writing bug skipped a generation, but it has hit my generation hard. I’m the first in my family to publish a full-sized novel, but I know I won’t be the only one for long.

What  a blessing to have word craft in your genes. As a Christina who writes do you have a favorite verse that resonartes with you??

Galatians 5:1 “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” I could probably write an entire book about why that verse has so much meaning to me… maybe I will someday.

Where is your favorite place to write?

At the ocean. I don’t live near the ocean, so I only get to write there when I’m on vacation, but its so relaxing. On the farm is my norm, and it is also relaxing, unless there are unfinished chores nagging at my brain. And if you’ve ever lived on a farm, you’ll know that is most days.

I can imagine the peaceful beach setting and I have fellow-authors who live on farms and say the same thing. Even we city dwellers get distracted. I’m always excited when others take the leap into novel writing.

Book Blurb:

In a collapsing society, former cheerleader Jan Worthington aches for the exciting—normal—life she’s lost. But when she invites a young boy into their home to fill an empty heart once full of friends, her trust leads to the theft of the family’s most valuable survival asset. Now, she can’t trust anyone.

As their situation grows more perilous, her father decides it’s time to protect what they have left. The guns come out, the traps get set, and Jan spurns all friendships to safeguard herself and her family.

When and who to depend on becomes harder to determine, so how will they defend themselves from the marauders headed their way if they are without friends? And what will it take for Jan to reopen her heart to trust?

More about Angela Shelton

Angela Shelton was born and raised in Erie County, Pennsylvania, Angela moved to Georgia just seven short years ago where she added the title of farmer to her resume. She lives on Two Oaks Ranch with her husband, Tom, two huskies, a dozen chickens, and a herd of Angus cows. Faith and family are her most important assets in life and in her writing.

Calling on her experience on her farm in small-town Georgia, Angela also drew on her husband’s military and law enforcement understanding, and her own healthcare connections to create her new series of books. The stories revolve around in a small-town Georgia family who turn to farming just in the nick of time to be self-sufficient when the supply chains in the world collapse.

Ms. Shelton is a member of the Christian Indie Publishing Association, the American Christian Fiction Writers, and Word Weavers International. The first book in the series, Collapse: The Death of Friendship is currently on pre-order with Amazon.
