Soon we will turn the page of our life journey from 2021 to 2022. We weren’t quarantine in our houses like 2020.. But we continued to do a dance with COVID-19 and all its new partners. And that dance has affected the writer’s life. Most of us are not accomplishing all we would like to grow our sales.
Although more people are reading, there are fewer publishers to pitch our stories to
. A million new books appear on Amazon almost everyday making it harder to get the visibility we want for our books.
Technology doesn’t make it easier to sell books. Rather it gives us more ways to be visible, hoping to make sales.
When the ball drops to usher in 2022 what are your plans to make this coming year the best year yet for your writing and sales?
Plan
Make a plan and then work that plan.
Oh, it sounds so simple. But we all know that a plan is only as successful as the one willing to follow it. I don’t do resolutions, like most people I fail at those. The best way to make a plan work is to have accountability. That’s right, I said, accountability. And with technology, that isn’t so hard anymore. Accountability doesn’t have to be a groan-worthy word.
Accountability Partners
I’ve had an accountability partner for years. Once a week, I send Darlene my goals for the week and honestly tell her my successes and failures from the previous week. She encourages, congratulates, and challenges me. I do the same for her.
One of my critique groups also holds each other accountable. Same format, send emails sharing our goals for the week and our successes and failures from the week before.
How do I find an accountability partner?
Many online writing groups I’ve noticed have Monday accountability. You post your goals. Then Friday you post your results to the group.
Accountability is one of the best ways I know to stay on track. I don’t want to admit I frittered away the week, so I strive to get my weekly plan done. Stuff happens that derail us. But then we start fresh the next week.
I’m an organic writer and that works well to get words on paper. But if I allow myself to reach goals organically, I’d spend my time reading or binge watching something rather than putting my hinny in the chair and my hands on the keyboard getting things done.
So, in 2022 make a plan and find a person or group to hold you accountable to stay the course. This is your chance to increase your word count, meet your self-imposed deadlines and do more on social media.
If you have accountability share in the comments what it is and how it is working for you?
Have a wonderful and productive 2022.
