More of my favorite books for June
Today I’m sharing a few contemporary reads I enjoyed this year. Their perfect for your vacation to-read list.
Reunion on Edisto
First up is C Hope Clark’s latest mystery, Reunion on Edisto. I’ve read every one of her mysteries to date. She writes for the general market and her writing craft is inspiring. It takes me until near the end of the books to discover who-done-it before she reveals it. I love mysteries like that. Edisto Island sounds like a fun place to vacation. And her love of the island shows through even with dead bodies scattered about. Placing a class reunion on Edisto was clever, but pulling in a cold case murder from high school made the story more intriguing. Mix in a few quirky characters that make Callie crazy as she races to pieces together the evidence from the past you have a mystery that will give you an excuse not to clean your house. You can read it as a stand-alone, but recommend grabbing the whole Edisto Island Mystery series.

The Golden Touch
A romantic-suspense author I enjoy is Carole Brown. Her interview was this past Tuesday. I finished The Golden Touch this week. It is part of a larger Applton,WV, Romantic Mystery Series.but can be read as a stand-alone. She builds the suspense along with a romance in a subtle, natural way. Unexpected twists and a definite spiritual thread that carries the story along. She addresses difficult subjects and leaves just enough unanswered to springboard into the next book.

Avoiding Marriage
Karin Beery’s newest contemporary romance has laugh out loud moments. I loved Practically Married, and her latest offering Avoiding Marriage is just as fun. Jessie is trying so hard to fix what she views as a tattered reputation by swearing off men. Then the wife of her ex begs her to come run the farm off. The dream job she’s always wanted. Watching her avoid gossip, avoid her granny’s matchmaking and discovering a guy nothing like her ex might be the right one for her made this story extra delightful. It’s the perfect set on the patio and relax for a few hours kind of read. I can’t wait for the next installment of the Practically Married novella series.
